Mariner Minors
Game Recaps (8/4/06)
Tacoma 4, Iowa 1 (CHC + 1)Might as well start off with a win… RHP Cha Seung Baek (2.80, W) pitched eight innings and gave up one run on two hits, a wild pitch, a hit batter, and two walks while striking out three. RHP Jon Huber (2.30, S) struck out two in the ninth.
LF Jon Nelson (2B, 2 RBI, .295) had a couple of hits, and 2B Hunter Brown (HR, .275), CF T.J. Bohn (2B, R, .264), and SS Oswaldo (2B, RBI, .232) all had extra-base hits. Brown and Navarro both drew walks too.
San Antonio 2, Corpus Christi 3 (HOU + 1)RHP Travis Chick (2.23) went seven strong and gave up a run on four hits and two walks against three Ks. LHP Jason Mackintosh (3.97) pitched a third of an inning after that, giving up a hit and a walk, and a run would come around to score after LHP Eric O’Flaherty (1.19, L) came in. O’Flaherty gave up an unearned run in an inning and a third on three hits and a K.
LF Jason Bourgeois (CS, .280) had a couple of hits and RF Wladimir Balentien (R, SB, .253) had a hit and a walk.
Inland Empire 3, Modesto 4 (COL - 7)LHP Shawn Nottingham (4.51, L) let four runs score on seven hits, a wild pitch, two balks, a hit batter, and two walks against five Ks in seven innings. RHP Mumba Rivera (4.05, PO) gave up a hit and walked one in the eighth.
CF Brent Johnson (RBI, .284) and 2B Alex Meneses (R, .324) both had two hits, and SS Luis Valbuena (RBI, .275) had a hit and a walk.
There are a few articles floating around on the Sixers that are worth taking a peek at. One covers
Aaron Jensen, and his awful July as compared to the rest of his season, and one is a
SBSun Notebook, covering de la Cruz and the reasons why you haven’t seen Mike Hrynio or Jeff Dominguez around lately.
Fort Wayne 6 (SD + 4), Wisconsin 4RHP Marwin Vega (5.77) gave up three runs through six innings on eight hits, a hit batter, and a walk against five Ks. LHP Lance Beus (2.18) walked one in the seventh, and RHP Ruben Flores (5.64) walked one and struck out one in the eighth, but RHP Austin Bibens-Dirkx (2.95, BS, L) let three runs score in two-thirds of an inning on four hits. RHP Juan Colon (7.50) had to record the final out.
3B Robby Hudson (2B, 2 R, RBI, .288) and CF Michael Saunders (3B, 2 RBI, .239) had two hits batting first and second in the order, with Saunders walking twice, but there was little help behind them. Hudson and Saunders are both stating off August on the right foot, after hitting .323/.371/.510 and .292/.363/.371 in July, respectively.
Everett 0, Tri-City 2 (COL + 1)LHP Tony Butler (3.55, L) was on the receiving end of an awful loss, as he gave up a run on three walks and a pair of wild pitches while striking out nine in five innings of work. LHP Jose Suriel (3.72) gave up a run on three hits, a walk, and two Ks in the next two innings, and then RHP Justin Souza (4.24) struck out one in the ninth.
CF Kevin Reynolds (CS, .273) and LF Gavin Dickey (.221) had two hits, SS Ogui Diaz (2B, .248) doubled, and 1B Joe White (.244) walked twice, but the ‘Sox couldn’t manage a single run out of it.
Phoenix Brewers 1 (- 7), Peoria Mariners 13I don’t know how much satisfaction one should take from beating a team that has yet to win a game in the second half, but at least they didn’t hand them their first victory. The first eight innings were split evenly between RHP Leonardo Torres (7.50), RHP Jared Eichelberger (5.19), RHP Robert Harmon (8.10), and RHP Rocky Collis (3.20). While Torres and Collis did all right, with Torres giving up a hit and striking out one and Collis allowing a hit and a walk while striking out two, Eichelberger and Harmon both had Ks for every out they recorded. Eichelberger would give up two hits and a walk in addition to that, while Harmon hit a batter. RHP Haley Winter (8.84) gave up the one run on four hits and a K in the ninth.
DH Donato Ruiz (R, 3 RBI, .269) had three hits in the game, 3B Deybis Benitez (2 R, .246), CF Wellington Dotel (2 R, RBI, SB, .246), RF Carlos Peguero (R, 2 RBI, .317), and SS Jose Morban (2B, 3B, R, RBI, E, .286) all had two hits, and LF Marquise Liverpool (2B, R, 2 RBI, E, .267) and 1B Gerardo Avila (HR, 2 R, 2 RBI, .312) both had extra-base hits. 2B Matt Vogel (2 R, RBI, .290) had a hit and a walk out of the nine spot, and C Erwin Jacobo (R, PB, .208) had two walks hitting ahead of him. It’s not often that I get to mention an entire lineup, but it’s worth taking advantage of the opportunity.
VSL Phillies 3 (+ 16), Aguirre Mariners 3 (eleven innings)I don’t know how to feel about this one. It wasn’t the result I wanted facing the top team, but it wasn’t the result I didn’t want either, and while they lost half a game on the second place team, they gained a half on the third place one. Unfortunately, they’ve been mathematically eliminated from anything but a tie for first and second is slipping out of reach. RHP Juan Ramirez (1.66, PO) gave up four hits, walked three and struck out four in five innings to start things out. RHP Alfredo Venegas (2.66) pitched the next two and a third and let three score, two of them earned, on five hits (HR), a walk, and a K, and RHP Yovanny Olivero (2.18, PO) let one of those score on three hits, a wild pitch, two walks, and two Ks in two innings of work. RHP Miguel Marquez (1.91) pitched the final inning and two-thirds and struck out four of the five batters he faced. At least they busted out their big guns from the pitching end of things.
3B Jetsy Extrano (R, RBI, .263) came up with three hits, and 2B Cesar Fuentes (3B, .271) tripled and walked, but there wasn’t much else to speak of from the rest of the lineup.

Game Recaps (8/3/06)
Tacoma 10, Iowa 2 (CHC + 2)RHP Francisco Cruceta (4.23, W) picked up his tenth win, going six inning and giving up two runs on three hits (HR), a hit batter, a walk, and six Ks. A nice start to the month, considering he was walking a batter every other inning in July. RHP Renee Cortez (4.15) struck out one in the next two innings, and RHP Jon Huber (2.37) gave up a hit and struck out one in the ninth.
C Jeff Clement (2 2B, 2 R, RBI, .259) busted out four hits in the game, 3B Hunter Brown (2B, 2 R, SB, .275) and CF T.J. Bohn (2 RBI, .264) both had three hits and a walk, and DH Rob Johnson (2 RBI, SB, .234) and SS Oswaldo Navarro (R, RBI, CS, .225) both had two. 1B Bryan Lahair (HR, 2 R, 2 RBI, .306) hit one out of the park in the seventh, his third home run at the triple-A level.
San Antonio 6, Corpus Christi 3 (HOU 0)LHP Ryan Feierabend (3.89, W) took the mound for eight innings and gave up two runs on four hits (HR), a wild pitch, a walk, and five Ks. LHP Eric O’Flaherty (1.24) let one last run score on a couple of hits in the ninth.
The offense got two-hit performances by LF Jason Bourgeois (R, .277), SS Scotty Baseball (RBI, .389), 1B Marshall Hubbard (R, RBI, E, .281), DH Jesus Guzman (R, .249), 3B Matt Tuiasosopo (R, RBI, .192), and 2B Matt Rogelstad (R, .200), and as if that weren’t enough on its own, Hubbard and Rogelstad both walked twice, Bourgeois and Youngbauer both walked once, and RF Mike Wilson (HR, A, .309) had a solo home run.
Stockton 3 (OAK 0), Inland Empire 6LHP Justin Thomas (4.91, W) got the win, as he allowed two runs to score over six innings on three hits, a hit batter, and five walks against three Ks. Since his promotion to Inland, Thomas’ walks have gone up by almost two per nine innings, but his Ks have also increased noticeably, so I don’t know what’s going on there. RHP Joe Woerman (3.44) gave up a run on two hits and two walks in the next inning and two-third, and RHP Jose de la Cruz (2.66) gave up one hit and struck out two in the final inning and a third. Take out his mediocre April, and for the season, de la Cruz has a 2.25 ERA, a 5.75 H/9, a 1.5 BB/9, and a 7.75 K/9. May be a little underrated at the moment.
CF Chris Colton (2B, 2 R, .246), RF Casey Craig (R, CS, .346), and 2B Luis Valbuena (RBI, .271) each had two hits, and SS Alex Meneses (2B, R, 2 RBI, .300) had a double.
Fort Wayne 2 (SD + 3), Wisconsin 6Less offense for the Wizards today, as LHP Jose Escalona (4.02, W) allowed just five hits, a wild pitch, and two walks against six Ks in five+ innings. RHP Roman Martinez (3.89) gave up two runs on a hit, a hit batter, a walk, and two Ks in the next inning and a third, and RHP Austin Bibens-Dirkx (1.53) let two of those score on a hit, a walk, and two Ks in an inning and two-thirds after that. RHP Brian Kappel (3.27) struck out two in the ninth.
The offense was led by C Adam Moore (2 2B, R, 2 RBI, .276), who collected three hits and has been swinging the bat better of late. SS Chris Minaker (RBI, SB, .250), 3B Jeff Flaig (R, RBI, .206), and DH Travis Scott (2B, R, RBI, .220) all had two hits, and 2B Ron Garth (2B, R, .278) doubled.
Everett 6, Tri-City 5 (COL 0) (eleven innings)RHP Ricky Orta (4.44) went five innings and gave up a couple of runs on six hits, a walk, and three Ks. LHP Rollie Gibson (4.58) gave up a hit in the next inning and struck out three, bumping up his K/9 to 11.2 after it was 8.3 in Wisconsin. RHP Joe Kantakevich (4.00) gave up a hit and a walk while striking out four in the next two innings, but three runs scored against RHP Kameron Mickolio (4.50) in two-thirds of an inning on two hits, a walk, and two Ks. RHP Doug Fister (0.94, BS, W) blew the save by letting one of Mickolio’s runs score, but earned the win as he gave up one hit and a walk while striking out four in the final two and a third innings.
Overall, CF Kevin Reynolds (RBI, .250) and LF Gavin Dickey (2 2B, R, 4 RBI, .208) had two hits each, and C Jair Fernandez (2 R, .218) had a hit and a walk.
Peoria Mariners 5, Mesa Angels 6 (+ 2)LHP Julio Santiago (9.00) got another rehab inning in and gave up a hit. RHP Nathan Adcock (5.25) pitched the next four and three runs scored against him on three hits, a wild pitch, two walks, and two Ks. RHP Kyle Parker (4.57, BS) gave up a run on a hit against four Ks in two innings of work, but the M’s rallied back, only to lose it again. LHP Will Brown (8.04) let two runs, one earned, score on four hits against three Ks in an inning and a third, and RHP Haley Winter (8.83) allowed one of those to score while recording one out.
RF Carlos Peguero (HR, 2 R, .311) had a home run and a walk, and SS Deybis Benitez (.239) and 2B Jose Morban (R, RBI, 2 E, .250) both had two walks, with Morban adding a hit.
Aguirre Mariners 2, VSL Twins/Blue Jays 1 (- 20)The M’s won, but so did all the other teams ahead of them. RHP Rhonny Acosta (4.11, W) pitched six+ innings and let a run score on two hits, a hit batter, and six walks against two Ks. RHP Carlos Sanchez (2.59, S) gave up three hits in the final three innings and let one of Acosta’s runs score.
The M’s only had one hit in the game, coming off the bat of CF Dwight Britton R, SB, A, .252), but there were a number of walks, including two each by 2B Cesar Fuentes (.271) and 3B Jetsy Extrano (RBI, .252). Coming into the game, Extrano’s OBP was .151 points higher than his average, and .057 higher than his slugging percentage.

Game Recaps (8/2/06)
Tacoma 3, Iowa 7 (CHC + 3)LHP Cesar Jimenez (4.62, L) lasted only one inning, giving up a run on three hits and a walk before he was pulled with a sore arm. RHP Mike Flannery (6.14) pitched the next three innings and gave up five runs after seven hits (HR) and five Ks. RHP Justin Huisman (6.43) got the next three, allowing another run to cross on three hits, a walk, and a K, and then RHP Scott Atchison (3.09) struck out one in the ninth.
RF Jon Nelson (2B, 2 R, .291) had two hits and a walk, and 3B Ismael Castro (2B, RBI, .256) and SS Oswaldo Navarro (2B, 2 RBI, .211) both had extra-base hits. DH Roberto Petagine (.000) really is in Tacoma, and went 0-for-3 with a walk tonight.
Various moves about, as IF Juan Guzman is up in Tacoma with Garciaparra going on the DL with a strained calf. Chris Mehring is also reporting that over in Wisconsin, they’ve released Nick Prosise, called up Curtis Ledbetter from Everett, and RHP Ruben Flores is coming off the DL.
San Antonio 1, Corpus Christi 3 (HOU + 1)LHP Travis Blackley (3.85, PO, L) gave up three runs (two earned) on six hits (2 HR!), a hit batter, three walks, and three Ks through seven innings. RHP Chad Fillinger (2.70) struck out two in the eighth.
1B Marshall Hubbard (HR, .272) had the solo home run to account for the Missions’ scoring. SS Erick Monzon (3B, .259) tripled, and DH Jason Bourgeois (.274) walked twice.
Stockton 2 (OAK 0), Inland Empire 9RHP Aaron Jensen (5.79, W) took down one of the better teams in the league, giving up two runs on three hits (HR) and two walks against seven Ks. May be his best start of the season. LHP Saydel Beltran (2.35) gave up a hit and a walk and threw a wild pitch in the eighth, and then RHP Jon Lockwood (3.93) gave up a hit in the ninth.
3B Brent Johnson (2 R, 2 RBI, .282) had three hits in the game, and 2B Jack Arroyo (HR, 3 RBI, SB, .315), CF Chris Colton (R, SB, .242), RF Casey Craig (2B, R, 2 RBI, .341), C Luis Oliveros (2B, R, RBI, .252), and LF Josh Womack (3B, 2 R, .298) all had two hits. There were also a good number of walks in this, as Arroyo, Colton, and Womack each drew one, and SS Alex Meneses (RBI, .296) drew two.
Fort Wayne 14 (SD + 4), Wisconsin 3Do you really want to know? Well, LHP David Asher (4.47, L) gave up nine runs on ten hits, two walks, and one K in three+ innings. RHP Juan Colon (7.71) let two of those score, along with two of his own in the fourth when he allowed three hits, a wild pitch, and three walks. RHP Ruben Flores (5.73) walked one and struck out three in the next inning, and then LHP Lance Beus (2.25) pitched two innings and let two runs (one earned) score on two hits (HR) and a walk. RHP Roman Martinez (3.51) and RHP Brian Kappel (3.60) split the last two innings without incident.
CF Michael Saunders (2 R, .235), 2B Ron Garth (2B, HR, 3 RBI, .278), and C Adam Moore (2B, .250) all had two hits, with Garth and Moore also drawing walks.
Peoria Mariners 3, Mesa Angels 4 (+ 2)RHP Jorge Campillo (6.00) gave up three runs on six hits against four Ks in three innings. RHP Brandon Morrow (0.00) gave up two hits and a walk and struck out four in the next three innings, and RHP Marquis Pettis (3.32, L) took the loss as he gave up a run on two hits and a wild pitch in the seventh. RHP John Sullivan (4.50) gave up a hit, hit a batter, and struck out one in the ninth.
DH Stan Posluszny (RBI, .349) had three hits in the game, C Juan Beltran (PO, .283) and CF Wellington Dotel (A, .240) had two each, and SS Jose Morban (3B, R, RBI, .238) and 3B Alex Liddi (2B, R, .323) both had extra-base hits.
VSL Tigers/Marlins 2 (- 18), Aguirre Mariners 5Three wins out of first with five games to go and three teams ahead of them, and one of those games comes against the top team. Can the VSL M’s manage to grab a playoff spot? LHP Kervin Montbrum (1.59, W) picked up his first win of the season, pitching five innings and giving up three hits and two walks while striking out three. With only seventeen innings in the books for him, it’s pretty much a lost season, but he has pitched well on the rare occasion that he’s been out there (save for the walks). RHP Yoervis Medina (4.00, S) pitched the final four and let two runs score, one of them earned, on four hits, a walk, and a K.
SS Terry Serrano (2B, R, RBI, .231) had three hits batting ninth, LF Greysom Berroteran (2 R, SB, E, .242) and RF Mario Yepez (2B, R, RBI, E, .236) had two each, and CF Dwight Britton (R, RBI, .253) had a hit and a walk.

Game Recaps (8/1/06)
Oklahoma 4 (TEX – 3), Tacoma 3RHP Clint Nageotte (5.40, L) was back in the PCL, but the results weren’t so good, as he gave up two runs in four innings on five hits, a wild pitch, and two walks. I’m thinking that years of excessive slider use might’ve done him in because something just isn’t right these days. RHP Rich Dorman (4.97) pitched the next four innings and let one more runs score on a hit and two walks against five Ks, and then RHP Aaron Looper (6.06) gave up a run on two hits and a K in the ninth.
CF T.J. Bohn (2B, RBI, .258) and LF Jon Nelson (2B, 3B, .283) both had a couple of hits, and 2B Ismael Castro (3B, R, .259) and 3B Mike Morse (2B, .245) had extra-base knocks.
Stockton 13 (OAK + 1), Inland Empire 9RHP Justin Jordan (4.76, L) allowed nine runs (two earned) to score on nine hits (2 HR) and a hit batter against four Ks in four and two-thirds innings. RHP Mumba Rivera (4.11) let two of those score, plus two more in two innings on four hits, a walk, and two Ks, and RHP Joe Woerman (3.24) scored on of those on a hit, a hit batter, and two Ks in an inning and a third. RHP Aaron Trolia (6.05) gave up two runs after four hits, a walk, and a K in the ninth.
CF Josh Womack (3B, 2 R, RBI, .295), 1B Reed Eastley (2B, R, 5 RBI, E, .275), DH Chris Colton (2B, R, 5 RBI, CS, .239), LF Jack Arroyo (E, .308), and 2B Luis Valbuena (R, .250) all had two hits.
Fort Wayne 8 (SD + 3), Wisconsin 7RHP Nick Allen (3.59) let six runs (five earned) on eight hits (HR) and two walks against five Ks in five innings. LHP Harold Williams (3.17) gave up another run on two hits (HR) and four walks against a K in an inning and a third, and RHP Edgar Guaramato (6.38) finished up that inning, striking out one of the two batters he faced. RHP Austin Bibens-Dirkx (1.69) allowed a run to score in the final two innings on two hits against two Ks.
SS Chris Minaker (2B, R, .240), 1B Johan Limonta (2B, R, .227), LF Kuo-hui Lo (2 R, .269), C Travis Scott (R, RBI, .205), and 2B Johan Limonta (R, RBI, .289) each had two hits.
Spokane 4 (CHC – 13), Everett 5 (ten innings)RHP Natividad Dilone (4.06) gave up a run through four innings on three hits, a hit batter, three walks, and three Ks. RHP Ari Kafka (6.43, PO) gave up two more in two innings on a home run, two walks, and two strikeouts, and RHP Will Fenton (11.25) let another cross the plate on a hit, a hit batter, and a walk in the next inning, but it was clear sailing from then on. RHP Stephen Richard (3.09) let runners reach via a hit and two walks while striking out five in two innings and RHP Doug Fister (1.03, W) struck out one in the tenth.
3B Leury Bonilla (HR, 3 RBI, SB, .210) and LF Bryan Sabatella (2B, R, .282) both provided power, and CF Kevin Reynolds (.229), 2B Dean Zorn (R, .269), and C Jair Fernandez (R, .216) added walks, with Reynolds and Zorn drawing two and Fernandez drawing three.
Peoria Padres 5 (+ 2), Peoria Mariners 9RHP Jeff Harris (0.00) pitched a couple of innings, gave up two hits, and struck out a pair. RHP Douglas Salinas (1.99) gave up five runs (three earned) on seven hits and two Ks in the next two innings and RHP Chris Tillman (0.00) gave up three hits and a walk and struck out five in the final three.
RF Carlos Peguero (3B, HR, 2 R, 3 RBI, E, .322) had four hits in the game, and struck out in his other appearance, of course. 2B Jose Morban (2 R, 2 SB, 2 E, .250) and DH Stan Posluszny (2B, R, RBI, .333) both had two hits, and 3B Alex Liddi (HR, 2 RBI, .325) had a home run and a walk.
Aguirre Mariners 5, VSL Orioles/White Sox 8 (+ 12)LHP Jose Jimenez (3.02, L) started the game, but pitched only two innings, giving up five runs (two earned) on six hits and a K. RHP Leonardo Gonzalez (3.38, PO) pitched the next five innings and let three more score on five hits, a wild pitch, two hit batters, and two walks against three Ks. RHP Carlos Sanchez (2.79) struck out one in the ninth.
1B Humberto Espinoza (R, .287) had three singles, RF Greysom Berroteran (HR, 2 RBI, .231) had two hits, including the only one that went for extra-bases for the M’s, and C Larry Gonzalez (.259) had a hit and two walks.
It’s about time to check in with the DSL academy. Since last note, the M’s have gone 10-6, and continue to lead their division. Once again, LHP Eddy Fernandez has turned into the top pitcher in the division, posting a 0.61 ERA through 55.2 IP, a 7-2 record, a 0.82 WHIP, K/9 over nine and a K/BB of almost eight. There aren’t really any other pitchers who are showing signs of a breakout, or coming close to outdoing their previous season, but RHP Walter Suriel, a twenty-year-old, is having a decent season, with a 0.90 ERA in 24 IP, a WHIP under one, and K-rate of 11.25 per nine. Using some older, but slightly more complete stats, it looks like IF Luis Nunez is still leading the hitters by batting .358/.430/.462 in 106 at-bats, but another talent I’ve been interested in down there has been OF Maximo Mendez. Another left-handed slugger, Mendez put up a similar profile to Carlos Peguero last year, lots of Ks, but lots of power. The difference is, Mendez might have less power, but walks at a batter clip. He has a .235/.436/.439 line right now, and thirty-one walks to thirty-three Ks to go with his four home runs. Someone to watch for the future.

Game Recaps (7/31/06)
Oklahoma 4 (TEX – 4), Tacoma 7LHP Bobby Livingston (5.05, W) gave up four runs through six innings on seven hits (HR), three walks, and a K. RHP Renee Cortez (4.34, S) walked one and struck out two over the final three innings to notch his fifth save.
LF Jon Nelson (2B, 3 RBI, CS, .277) went 4-for-4 and pretty much pushed the team over the top in this one. CF T.J. Bohn (2B, HR, .254), 3B Hunter Brown (3 R, .271), and C Rob Johnson (2 RBI, .234) all had two hits.
The Missions have had Texas League Pitchers of the Week two weeks in a row now, with Chick getting the nod this week, and Blackley getting it last week.
San Antonio 11, Midland 10 (OAK + 3) Take that, Rockhounds! Well, maybe I shouldn’t gloat too much; LHP Robert Rohrbaugh (3.24, W) did all right, giving up four runs on five hits, a wild pitch, two walks, and four Ks in six innings, but RHP Stephen Kahn (6.67) couldn’t get an out, and gave up three walks and hit a batter before LHP Ryan Rowland-Smith (4.22, S) came in, scored three of those, and two more in the inning. RRS would give up five hits total and strike out two in the three innings he pitched.
It’s hard to pass up on LF Jason Bourgeois (2 2B, R, 2 RBI, CS, .276) for the top offensive player in this, just because the occasion is rather rare that I get to talk about a hitter going 5-for-6. CF Sebastien Boucher (3 R, RBI, A, .253) and 1B Matt Roglestad (3B, R, 3 RBI, .172) both had three hits, SS Erick Monzon (2B, 2 R, RBI, .259) had two hits, and RF Wladimir Balentien (R, RBI, .259) and DH Mike Wilson (R, .323) both had two walks, with Wilson adding a hit to that.
High Desert 2 (KC 0), Inland Empire 3RHP Cibney Bello (4.03, W) gave up a couple of runs on six hits, two wild pitches, three walks, and eight Ks in six and two-thirds innings. RHP Juan Done (7.16) let one of those score on two hits and two walks against one K in an inning and a third. RHP Jose de la Cruz (2.74) picked up his fifteenth save wit ha hit and a K in the ninth.
The star of the game would have to be 1B Reed Eastley (2 HR, .271), who hit a couple of bombs to give the Sixers some breathing room. C J.B. Tucker (2B, R, .216) had a double and scored in the third.
Wisconsin 6, Beloit 7 (MIN + 5)More pain. LHP Paul Fagan (4.78) gave up six runs (four earned) on eight hits, three walks, and five Ks in five and two-thirds innings. RHP Roman Martinez (3.62, L) pitched two innings after that, giving up a run on two hits (HR) and a K, and LHP Lance Beus (2.10, E) got the final out for the T-Rats pitchers.
SS Robby Hudson (R, .287) had three hits, 2B Ron Garth (R, .279), C Adam Moore (R, RBI, .232), and RF Eddy Hernandez (HR, 2 RBI, .241) had two each, and 1B Johan Limonta (2B, E, .218) had a double.
Spokane 3 (CHC – 12), Everett 11LHP Steve Uhlmansiek (3.02, W) picked up his third win, giving up two hits and two walks while striking out three in five innings. RHP Andrew Fiorenza (2.87) walked one and struck out one in the next two innings. LHP Greg Nesbit (4.88) gave up two runs (one earned) on three hits and struck out one in the eighth, and then RHP Aaron Solomon (0.77) let another unearned run score in the ninth on two hits as he struck out the side.
C Jair Fernandez (2B, 2 R, 3 RBI, .219) gets the nod for two hits and two walks. SS Ogui Diaz (2B, R, 2 RBI, 2 E, .246) had two hits and one walk, but committed the errors that led to the unearned runs. LF Bryan Sabatella (4 R, SB, .283) had a hit and two walks, RF Jose Graterol (3 R, .212) just had the two walks, and CF Kevin Reynolds (4 RBI, .250) had two hits.
VSL Pirates 5 (+ 12), Aguirre Mariners 3RHP Alfredo Venegas (2.60, L) gave up four runs on nine hits, a hit batter, and three Ks in six innings of work. RHP Yorjans Chourio (3.03, E) gave up an unearned run on four hits and a hit batter in the final three.
2B Jorge Agudelo (.298) had a couple of hits, RF Mario Yepez (.221) walked twice, and 1B Humberto Espinoza (R, RBI, .275) had a hit and a walk.

LF Josh Womack (2B, PO, .296) had a pair of hits and 2B Luis Valbuena (2B, .216) doubled. There was a hit out of almost every spot in the lineup, just not a lot done with them.
Wisconsin 3, Beloit 5 (MIN + 5)RHP Marwin Vega (5.88, L) got the hook after four innings, giving up five runs on ten hits, two walks, and five Ks. RHP Edgar Guaramato (6.46) had a hit, a walk, and a K to show for two innings of work after that, and RHP Austin Bibens-Dirkx (1.29) gave up a hit and struck out two in the seventh. In the final inning, RHP Brian Kappel (4.00) walked two and struck out one.

Scottsdale Giants 8 (+ 1), Peoria Mariners 3RHP Cory Koliscak (1.29, L) let two unearned runs score in two innings on two hits, two walks, and two Ks. RHP Leonardo Torres (9.00) pitched an inning after that, giving up two more unearned runs on three walks and a K. Can’t remember seeing him in a while. RHP Robert Harmon (9.20) let three (one earned) score on a hit, a wild pitch, a hit batter, and three walks in two innings, and then RHP Marquis Pettis (3.00) gave up a solo home run in an inning+. RHP Rocky Collis (3.38) struck out four over the next two frames and LHP Will Brown (8.16) gave up a hit and struck out one in the ninth. Defense decided this one.
LF Marquise Liverpool (R, .276), SS Deybis Benitez (RBI, 3 E, .243), and 3B Alex Liddi (3B, R, 2 E, .328) each had two hits, and 1B Gerardo Avila (2B, .345) had a double and a walk.
The game was listed in the schedule for Aguirre, but didn’t show up on the scoreboard for the league. I don’t get it. Not my fault though.

Game Recaps (7/29/06)
This is my thousandth post in this blog. Can't say I ever thought I'd be carrying this as far as I have, not that I figured I'd blow it off and lose interest in a few months either. I'd have more words, but I'm painfully tired at the moment, so I can't offer much other than my thanks for your continued readership and all kinds of reader feedback over the years. It's a bit of a chore at times, but I've enjoyed every bit of it.
Oklahoma 2 (TEX –2), Tacoma 9RHP Francisco Cruceta (4.29, W) seems to be getting back to where he was, giving up two runs on six hits and four walks against six Ks in six innings. The walks are still concerning though. RHP Scott Atchison (3.12) gave up a couple of hits and a walk while striking out two in the next two innings, and RHP Jon Huber (2.63) finished up the job with a hit and strikeout in the ninth.
C Rob Johnson (2 2B, R, 2 RBI, .230) had three hits while batting eighth, 1B Bryan Lahair (2B, 2 R, RBI, .317) and 3B Hunter Brown (2B, 2 R, 2 RBI, .264) both had two hits, and SS Oswaldo Navarro (HR, 2 RBI, .226) had a home run in the second.
San Antonio 7, Midland 8 (OAK + 5) Remember what I’ve said about Oakland farm teams? Yeah…. LHP Ryan Feierabend (4.00) gave up seven runs, four of ‘em earned, on nine hits (HR) and three walks against five Ks in five and a third innings. RHP Stephen Kahn (5.33) gave up one hit and two walks in the next inning and a third, and then LHP Eric O’Flaherty (1.04, L) took the loss when an unearned run scored on three hits in the final inning and a third.
The hitter did their part, as each reached base safely at least once. C Guillermo Quiroz (R, .278) and RF Wladimir Balentien (RBI, SB, E, .256) had two hits each, CF Sebastien Boucher (R, PO, .244) and DH Scotty Baseball (R, 2 RBI, .400) both had a hit and two walks, and LF Mike Wilson (.331) walked twice.
High Desert 3 (KC 0), Inland Empire 4 (eleven innings)LHP Justin Thomas (5.11) gave up three runs (two earned) on six hits and four walks against eight strikeouts in six innings. RHP Jon Lockwood (3.99) gave up a hit and struck out three over the next four innings. LHP Sadyel Beltran (2.70, W) walked one in the eleventh and ended up picking up the win.
DH J.B Tucker (2 R, HR, .212) gets the nod here for hitting the walk-off home run and walking twice. SS Alex Meneses (CS, .429) had a couple of hits, RF Chris Colton (R, SB, .237) walked twice, and PH-1B Reed Eastley (HR, 3 RBI, .268) had a three-run shot to keep things going in the seventh inning.
Wisconsin 3, Beloit 9 (MIN + 4)LHP Jose Escalona (4.22, L) went four and two-thirds innings and gave up six runs, three of them earned, on nine hits (HR) and four Ks. I don’t mean to speculate too much on something I don’t have sourced, but it could be that he’s tiring as he’s well beyond his usual workload for the year, or at least that’s something that I had concerns about with him jumping to full-season ball this year. LHP Harold Williams (3.11) walked three in the next two and a third innings, and RHP Juan Colon (5.91) let three score on three hits, a wild pitch, two hit batters, a walk, and a K in the eighth.
RF Eddy Hernandez (2B, A, .234) had a double and 2B Ron Garth (RBI, .280) had two hits.
Spokane 4 (CHC – 10), Everett 7I was going to try to get up there, but it’s probably better that I didn’t, as LHP Tony Butler (4.70) lasted only three and a third innings, giving up three runs on a home run, a wild pitch, and five walks against three Ks. RHP Joe Kantakevich (3.32, W) walked one and struck out two in the next inning and a third, and managed to not let any of his inherited runners score. LHP Rollie Gibson (4.86) gave up a solo home run, walked one, and struck out three in the next two innings, and then RHP Kameron Mickolio (3.12, S) gave up three hits and struck out two in the last two innings.
DH Manelik Pimentel (RBI, .277) had three and SS Ogui Diaz (R, 2 SB, .246) had two, but all those were singles. 2B Dean Zorn (2B, R, .269) and LF Gavin Dickey (HR, .198) were the only ones to flash any power, though 1B Joe White (2 R, RBI, .271) did his usual hit and two walks trick.
There have been a few moves on the Everett Aquasox roster lately, as noted in an artincle in
The Herald. Among the ones I haven’t already pointed out, C Curtis Ledbetter was moved up to Tacoma when Henson came in, and RHP Bryan Ball is now on some sort of rehab in Peoria, for reasons I’m not quite sure of. Also noted was the brawl that occurred while I was out of town, and its fallout. Dilone will be moving back into the rotation after Fiorenza spot started, but Halman looks to be out for the rest of the season after breaking a bone in his hand. It’s not worth it, guys, don’t do it.
Peoria Mariners 4, Surprise Royals 5 (+ 3)RHP Juan Zapata (3.60) had a hit, a wild pitch, a balk, two walks, and two Ks to show for two innings of work. RHP Nathan Adcock (4.50) gave up four more runs (two earned) on four hits, a hit batter, three walks, and three Ks in two innings after that, and then RHP Jared Eichelberger (5.87) walked three, threw a wild pitch, and struck out three in a couple of frames following him. In the final two innings, RHP Kyle Parker (5.03) gave up a run on two hits, a walk, and two Ks, and that ended up losing the game for the M’s.
SS Deybis Benitez (2B, 3B, 2 R, RBI, .231) had three hits out of the two spot and 1B Gerardo Avila (2B, R, 2 RBI, .346) and RF Carlos Peguero (2B, HR, 2 RBI, E, .308) had two hits batting fourth and fifth.
Aguirre Mariners 0, VSL Mets 5 (+ 4) (six innings)Nature simply does not want the Mariners and the Mets to face each other. Though a doubleheader was scheduled, only six innings were played. RHP Yovanny Olivero (2.24, L) pitched five+ innings, giving up five runs (four earned) on eight hits, two walks, and two Ks. LHP Kervin Montbrum (2.25) threw a wild pitch with an inherited runner on base, but didn’t allow him to score.
C Israel Nunez (.333) had a couple of hits and SS Terry Serrano (.221) had a hit and a walk.
