Edmonton 8 (MON), Tacoma 0
Even without his defensive miscues, RHP Cha Seung Baek (4.30, E, L) probably still would have lost. He ended up allowing three earned runs on seven hits (HR) and three walks with four strikeouts. LHP Tim Christman (5.27, E) had some similar issues, allowing two earned runs on three hits (HR) and a walk against a strikeout in the next two innings. RHP Jared Hoerman (5.89) had a perfect ninth, striking out two. The rainiers were two-hit, so the only guys to do anything at all were LF Luis Ugueto (SB, .265) and DH Ryan Christianson (.304). LHP Bryan Ward tonight.

Midland 8 (OAK), San Antonio 2
LHP Chris Key (4.59, L) didn’t pitch as well as hoped in his return to starting, giving up four runs on eight hits in four and a third innings. RHP T.A. Fulmer (5.93) allowed one of those runs and one of his own over the next two and two-thirds innings, three hits, a balk, two walks, and three strikeouts. LHP Tim Rall (4.70) gave up a hit and struck out two in the eighth, but then RHP Aaron Taylor (3.33) gave up an earned run on two hits and a strikeout in two-thirds of the ninth. RHP Emiliano Fruto (5.61) would end up giving up an unearned run to Taylor after a walk and a wild pitch. RF Shin-Soo Choo (R, RBI, SB, E, .310) and CF T.J. Bohn (.261) both had two hits and a walk. 3B Hunter Brown (2B, R, .284) also hit his 18th double. RHP Felix Hernandez tonight!

Inland Empire 5, High Desert 8 (MIL)
RHP Jon Huber (4.80) got through five innings, allowing five runs on nine hits (HR) and two walks against a strikeout. LHP Melvin Pizarro (3.43, L) gave up all three of the remaining runs on four hits (HR) and a walk over the next two innings. Making his debut in the Cal League, RHP Roman Martinez (0.00) gave up a hit, a walk, and a strikeout. At least, I’m assuming that it’s Roman, as we don’t have a young Ramon Martinez in the system (I’ll let this one slide). 2B Juan Gonzalez (R, RBI, SB, .296), LF Jon Nelson (HR, 2 RBI, CS, .307), and RF Josh Ellison (2 2B, R, .407) all had two hits each. RHP Juan Sandoval tonight.

Wisconsin 6, Clinton 3 (TEX)
LHP Ryan Feierabend (3.96, W) got one of the few wins on the night, going six innings and allowing three runs on six hits (HR), a hit batter, and a walk against seven strikeouts. RHP Austin Bilke (4.42, S) picked up a three-inning save, giving up three hits and striking out four. Number one and number nine, DH Josh Womack (R, .261) and C Justin Ruchti (2B, 2 R, .224) both had three hits. LF/1B Bryan Lahair (2B, 2 RBI, .316) had two, and SS Adam Jones (2B, 2 R, 2 RBI, E, .266) had a double. RHP Brandon Moorhead tonight.

Eugene 4 (SD), Everett 15
RHP Ruben Flores (5.20) was pulled after just two-thirds of an inning. He struck out one, but the hit that he gave up was a wicked line drive that hit him in the right forearm, so they had to replace him with LHP Vance Hall (6.66, W). Hall would go three and two-thirds innings, allowing two runs on five hits, a hit batter, a wild pitch, and two walks against four strikeouts. RHP Phil Cullen (2.19) went the next inning and two-thirds, giving up a run on two hits, a hit batter, and a wild pitch with two strikeouts. One of the pleasant surprises on the pitching end was LHP Brandon Perry (7.71) getting through the final three innings, allowing only one run on a solo shot with another meaningless hit and a strikeout. C Omar Falcon (2 2B, HR, 4 R, 4 RBI, .254) certainly had his hitting shoes on, going 4-4 with a walk on the night, though the same could be said for most of the team. LF Casey Craig (R, 2 RBI, .307), 3B Brent Johnson (2B, 3 R, 2 RBI, .313), and 1B Thomas Hubbard (SB, 2 RBI, .248) all had three hits apiece, while 2B/SS Oswaldo Navarro (2 2B, 2 R, SB, .267) and DH Matt Tuiasosopo (2B, 3B, 3 R, SB, .361) had two hits each. All was not well for the offense, however, as SS Asdrubal Cabrera (R, 2 SB, .281) aggravated his old back injury getting to a grounder and had to be pulled from the game. LHP Shawn Nottingham tonight!

Arizona Rangers 4, Peoria Mariners 6
RHP Oliver Arias (6.29) had a pretty good start, going four innings and giving up and earned run on five hits and a wild pitch with six strikeouts. LHP Adam Brandt (3.38, W) went the next three frames, giving up nothing earned on a hit and five strikeouts. RHP Matt Tindell (1.80, S) would give up a run on a hit and two walks against three strikeouts in the final two innings. C Danny Santin (2 2B, 2 R, CS, .366) was at it again, going 4-4, while DH Rob Johnson (CS, .250), who is rehabbing his elbow, had two hits.

Tacoma Rainiers: 65-52, .556, 0.5 GB in PCL North
San Antonio Missions: 55-62, (25-22, 2nd half) .470 (.532), 1st in TL West
Inland Empire 66ers: 66-52 (27-21), .559 (.563), 1.5 GB CAL South
Wisconsin Timber Rattlers: 54-63 (23-25), .462 (.479), 7 GB in MWL Western
Everett Aquasox: 30-24, .556, 1st in NWL West

Midland 6 (OAK), San Antonio 7
RHP Juan Done (5.48) started and went six innings, giving up a run on four hits, a wild pitch, and three walks against four strikeouts. RHP Renee Cortez (4.69) didn’t pitch so well, giving up a couple of runs on a hit and two walks, but he couldn’t get started in the eighth, where he walked his two. That wasn’t as bad as LHP Tim Rall (4.78) giving up a hit, a wild pitch, and a walk without recording an out, but RHP Rick Guttormson (3.69, W) came in for the two innings after that, giving up a run on three hits. By the time the eighth inning was over, both of Cortez’ runs, both of Rall’s runs, and Guttormson’s run had scored. Good thing that SS Michael Morse (HR, 3 RBI, .263) hit a two-run bomb in the bottom of that inning, though other extra-base hits were provided by 3B Hunter Brown (2B, R, .283), 1B John Lindsey (2B, CS, .291), and 2B Eddie Menchaca (3B, R, 2 RBI, .227). I just got an e-mail from the Missions' staff indicating that LHP Chris Key will be taking over in the rotation, at least for now. LHP Phil Devey is off to Athens as a replacement for Jeff Francis on the Canada roster. RHP T.A. Fulmer is also back in San Antonio, so he might get the starting nod at some point.

Lancaster 5 (ARI), Inland Empire 0
RHP Rett Johnson (0.00) had another one-inning start, walking two and striking out two. LHP Thom Oldham (2.30, E, L) went after that, allowing two earned runs on seven hits (HR) against five strikeouts over five innings. LHP Cesar Jimenez (2.54) pitched the final three innings, giving up nothing earned on a hit and a walk while he struck out three. The offense was handcuffed tonight, with SS Michael Garciaparra (2B, .209) having the only significant hit. RHP Jon Huber tomorrow.

Wisconsin’s game was postponed, apparently.

Everett 3, Spokane 5 (TEX)
RHP Jason Snyder (4.42, L) got through four and a third innings, allowing three runs on three hits, a wild pitch, and five walks against four strikeouts. RHP Terry Forbes (2.70) allowed one of those runs, and two of his own over the final three and two-thirds, five hits (HR), a walk, and two strikeouts overall. 1B Brandon Green (HR, 2 RBI, .285) had a couple of hits, and C Omar Falcon (2B, RBI, .228) had a double. RHP Ruben Flores tomorrow.

Peoria Mariners 4, Scottsdale Giants 10
RHP Eric Carter (5.40, L) started, as expected, though the results were not, as he gave up seven earned runs on five hits, a hit batter, and four walks against a strikeout in just an inning and two-thirds. RHP Donald Clement (3.42) held the Giants to just one hit, one hit batter, and a walk over the next four and a third innings, then RHP Tim Dorn (7.07) took over and allowed one earned run on three hits, two hit batters, two wild pitches, and a walk with three strikeouts along the way. DH Danny Santin (HR, 2 RBI, .343) and RF John-Austin Emmons (2B, R, RBI, .378) both had two hits each, while 1B Luis Soto (2B, R, .365) had yet another double. RHP Oliver Arias tomorrow.

The Dominican team has taken five of eight since last note, but are still running away with the division. Jairo Hernandez (T-2nd in runs scored, 1st in RBI, T-2nd in hits, 2nd in HR) has been on an absolute tear and is now 2nd in batting average at .335. Ronald Garth (3rd in runs scored, 4th in SB) is back up to fourth in batting average at .305, and is joined by Jose Mejia who is just behind him at .294. Leury Bonilla (5th in hits, 2nd in SB) is further down at ninth with .286. Eddy Fernandez (6-1) is leading the division in ERA at 0.90. Sterling Soto (5-0) is fourth at 1.53. Jael Luna (6-0) is second in strikeouts with 61, Carlos Colon (6-3) is just after him at 58. Natividad Dillone (3-2) is fourth in saves with five and Victor Perez (1-2) is just after him with four.

Tacoma Rainiers: 65-51, .560, 1st in PCL North
San Antonio Missions: 55-61, (25-21, 2nd half) .474 (.543), 1st in TL West
Inland Empire 66ers: 66-51 (27-20), .564 (.574), 1.5 GB CAL South
Wisconsin Timber Rattlers: 53-62 (22-24), .461 (.478), 7 GB in MWL Western
Everett Aquasox: 29-24, .547, 1st in NWL West
Peoria Mariners: 24-18 (8-6), .571 (.571), 3 GB in AZL
Seattle Mariners (VSL Aguirre): 32-28-2, .527 4 GB in VSL Valencia

Tacoma 2, New Orleans 8 (HOU)
I know that it was LHP Travis Blackley (3.61, L) who started, but lately he’s been pitching like Craig Anderson. He went six innings tonight and gave up six runs on seven hits (2 HR!), a hit batter, and two walks against four strikeouts. LHP Randy Williams (3.36) went the next two innings and gave up a run on two hits and a walk with a strikeout. The offense was basically LF Vince Faison (3B, R, .250) hitting a triple. The Rainiers have the day off tomorrow.

Midland 1 (OAK), San Antonio 5
RHP Chris Buglovsky (3.13, W) was back to his vintage stuff, going five and two-thirds innings and giving up a run on two hits, a hit batter, a wild pitch, and two walks against seven strikeouts. RHP Emiliano Fruto (5.64) went next, giving up a hit and striking out a batter over the next inning and a third. LHP Jared Thomas (4.10) wrapped up the game with two hits and two strikeouts. On offense, 3B Hunter Brown (R, .283) had two hits, while RF Shin-Soo Choo (2B, R, RBI, .310) and SS Michael Morse (HR, 2 RBI, .254) provided a little power. RHP Juan Done tomorrow.

Lancaster 1 (ARI), Inland Empire 2 (ten innings)
LHP Bobby Livingston (3.53) also had a vintage-level start, going seven innings and allowing a run on six hits and a walk as he punched out four. RHP Darwin Soto (3.34, W) went the last three innings, didn’t allow a runner to reach, and struck out two. He’s been the man of late. LF Jon Nelson (RBI, .308) and RF Carlos Arroyo (2B, RBI, SB, .322) both had three hits, with CF Gary Harris (2B, R, .276) doubling as well. 3B Jesus Guzman (R, .303) was 1-3 with a couple of walks, and his OBP is slowly inching up to where it belongs, right around .400. LHP Thom Oldham tomorrow!

Wisconsin 4, Beloit 11 (MIL)
RHP Nibaldo Acosta (3.73, L) didn’t pitch as bad as it looks, going six and two-thirds innings and giving up two earned runs on eight hits, a hit batter, and two walks with eight strikeouts. In fact, RHP Kenly Chang (5.10) allowed both of those two score, along with three of his own on two hits (HR), a wild pitch, and a strikeout in the next two-thirds. Of course, because what goes around comes around (and the T-Rats bullpen blows), LHP Casey Abrams (11.57) gave up one of Chang’s runs and two of his own after five walks and a wild pitch, with his one out coming via the strikeout. RHP Brad Rose (13.50) struck out the final batter to end the madness. DH Michael Cox (HR, 2 R, .241) did most of the damage with his two hits, but LF Bryan Lahair (2B, R, .310) also doubles and the much-traveled SS Francisco Gerez (2 SB, E,.167) was 1-2 with a couple of walks. RHP Bryan Stitt tomorrow…

Everett 1, Spokane 6 (TEX)
Here’s something I wanted to see, I just wish it had turned out differently. RHP Mumba Rivera (3.75) finally started, but he gave up four runs on seven hits (HR), two hit batters, a wild pitch, a walk, and two strikeouts over five innings. The man who lost his rotation spot (I called it, sort of), LHP Kendall Bergdall (6.22) went then ext three innings, giving up two runs on three hits and striking out three. LF Casey Craig (HR, .300) homered, 2B Oswaldo Navarro (2B, .271) doubled, and that was all of the hits for the Aquasox tonight. RHP Jason Snyder tomorrow.

Peoria Mariners 6, Mesa Cubs 7
LHP Paul Fagan (5.36, L) didn’t fare so well this time around, going just four innings and giving up six runs on seven hits, a hit batter, two wild pitchers, and three walks against four strikeouts. RHP Tyrone Lamont (3.67) had it easier in the next two innings, giving up just a hit and a wild pitch while striking out three. RHP Ryan Leaist (3.86) wrapped up the last two frames with one walk and four strikeouts. 1B Luis Soto (2B, R, 3 RBI, .370) had another three hits and really should be playing at a higher level, but I’ve said this before many times. 3B Jack Arroyo (2B, 3 R, .283) and SS Jeff Dominguez (RBI, E, .250) also had two hits, and RF John-Austin Emmons (RBI, SB, .373) was 1-2 with a couple of walks. RHP Eric Carter tomorrow?

Tacoma Rainiers: 65-51, .560, 1st in PCL North
San Antonio Missions: 54-61, (24-21, 2nd half) .470 (.533), 1st in TL West
Inland Empire 66ers: 66-50 (27-19), .569 (.589), 0.5 GB CAL South
Wisconsin Timber Rattlers: 53-62 (22-24), .461 (.478), 7 GB in MWL Western
Everett Aquasox: 29-23, .558, 1st in NWL West
Peoria Mariners: 24-17 (8-5), .585 (.615), 2 GB in AZL
Seattle Mariners (VSL Aguirre): 32-28-2, .527 4 GB in VSL Valencia

With Eddie Guardado and Rafael Soriano lost to (senseless) arm injuries for the entire 2005 season, how long is it before I start the Sherrill for Closer campaign? Hmm….

Tacoma 2, New Orleans 1 (HOU) (seven innings)
LHP Bill Pulsipher (2.92) was solid, going six and a third innings and allowing just one run on four hits, a hit batter, two walks, and two strikeouts. RHP Tony Runion (3.00, S) actually allowed that run, with a hit, a walk, and strikeout in his two-thirds. 2B Mickey Lopez (HR, 2 RBI, .291) had a two-run home run in the first to give the Rainiers all the offense they’d need, but 1B A.J. Zapp (.290) had two hits as well.

Tacoma 8, New Orleans 1 (HOU)
RHP Jeff Harris (5.14) started this one out, going five innings allowing a run on two hits and three walks against two strikeouts. LHP Chris Key (0.00) finished it off, allowing two hits and two walks. The five through seven hitters of DH Ryan Christianson (3 R, RBI, .323), 3B Greg Dobbs (2B, R, 2 RBI, .299), and C Jim Horner (R, .200) all had three hits each. LF Luis Ugueto (HR, 2 R, 2 RBI, SB, .265) also had two hits out of the leadoff spot. LHP Travis Blackley tomorrow.

In more Rainiers-related news, according to Mariners Intel, the M’s have signed 31-year-old RHP John Kelly to play for the Rainiers. You know your indie league team is in trouble when they activate their bullpen coach to start pitching. Regardless, it’s been a long and strange year for the Rainiers, going from having a prospect-laden pitching staff to a collection of scraps and, still, they somehow lead the division.

Midland 4 (OAK), San Antonio 2
RHP Rich Dorman (3.78) didn’t do quite as well this time around, giving up three runs on two hits (HR), three wild pitches, and three walks against six strikeouts. LHP Tim Rall (4.44) went the next inning, walking one and striking out two, then RHP Aaron Taylor (3.08) went the next two and gave up a run on three hits and a wild pitch as he struck out four. RHP Renee Cortez (4.35) struck out two in the ninth. RF Shin-Soo Choo (.311) continues to tear it up with another three hits, but not a lot happened with those or the two hits apiece by LF Dustin Delucchi (2B, .280), 1B John Lindsey (.293), and 2B Eddie Menchaca (R, .225). CF T.J. Bohn (2B, .356) also doubled and had two walks, which is always good to see, particularly with his recent struggles. RHP Chris Buglovsky tomorrow.

Lancaster 3 (ARI), Inland Empire 8
RHP Rett Johnson (0.00) started and went only one inning, giving up a hit, a wild pitch, and a walk while striking out a batter. LHP Troy Cate (2.53, W) went the next four innings, giving up one earned run on five hits (HR) as he struck out six. RHP Mike Steele (5.29) went the next three innings, walking one and striking out four, then LHP Cesar Jimenez (2.65) gave up a run on two hits in the ninth. LF Jon Nelson (HR, 2 R, 2 RBI, .304) and RF Carlos Arroyo (R, .317) both had two hits to lead the offense. 3B Jesus Guzman (2 R, RBI, .303) was also 1-2 with a walk, so maybe he’s getting back on track even though this slump has only had him batting around .290 at worst. LHP Bobby Livingston tomorrow.

Wisconsin 8, Beloit 6 (MIL)
LHP Jason Mackintosh (3.32, W) got through seven and a third innings, allowing six runs on thirteen hits (2 HR!) and a hit batter against five strikeouts. RHP Austin Bilke (5.28) went the final inning and two-thirds, allowing three hits and ringing up one batter. On offense, 1B Jeremy Dutton (2B, 2 R, .207), 2B Eric Blakeley (2B, 2 R, RBI, .305), CF Michael Nesbit (2B, R, 2 RBI, .304), and C Justin Ruchti (R, 2 RBI, .210) had two hits, while SS Adam Jones (2B, .269) was 1-3 with a double and two walks and 3B Michael Cox (2B, R, .237) was 1-4 with a double. RHP Nibaldo Acosta tomorrow.

Everett 6, Spokane 5 (TEX)
RHP Aaron Jensen (5.20, W) had a decent start, going five innings and giving up two earned runs on five hits, two hit batters, and three walks with three strikeouts. RHP Aaron Trolia (9.00) went the next three innings, giving up two runs on three hits (HR) and three walks against two strikeouts, then RHP Mark Lowe (5.59, S) picked up the save by striking out the side in the ninth. SS Oswaldo Navarro (R, 2 RBI, 2 SB, CS, .272) had three hits on the night, while CF Casey Craig (2B, RBI, SB, .301) and LF Mike Wilson (HR, 2 RBI, .280) supplied the power. LHP Kendall Bergdall tomorrow, I think.

Tacoma Rainiers: 65-50, .565, 1st in PCL North
San Antonio Missions: 53-61, (23-21, 2nd half) .465 (.523), 1st in TL West
Inland Empire 66ers: 65-50 (26-19), .565 (.578), 1.5 GB CAL South
Wisconsin Timber Rattlers: 53-61 (22-23), .465 (.489), 7 GB in MWL Western
Everett Aquasox: 29-22, .569, 1st in NWL West
Peoria Mariners: 24-16 (8-4), .600 (.667), 1.5 GB in AZL
Seattle Mariners (VSL Aguirre): 32-28-2, .527 4 GB in VSL Valencia

Tacoma 7, Oklahoma 5 (TEX)
LHP Bryan Ward (4.40, W) had another good outing, going seven a two-thirds innings and giving up three runs on eight hits (HR) with seven batters punched out. LHP Tim Christman (4.97) went next and gave up two runs on three hits, before passing the ball to RHP Tony Runion (3.86), who allowed one of Christman’s runs to score after getting his only out on a line to second, hitting a batter, and walking a batter. LHP Chris Key (0.00, S) got the final out, and with it, the save in his Triple-A debut. DH Ryan Christianson (2 RBI, .294) went 4-4 with a walk, which is good to see, though a few doubles here and there couldn’t hurt. In the two-hit crowd there was SS Ramon Santiago (R, .187), 2B Mickey Lopez (.287), 1B A.J. Zapp (HR, 2 R, 2 RBI, .290), and RF Elpidio Guzman (3 RBI, .281). LF Vince Faison (2B, 2 R, .400) also was 1-3 with a double and a walk.

Tacoma 4, New Orleans 9 (HOU)
Pitching: I don’t get it. So apparently, RHP Greg Wear (7.56, L) started, went three and two-thirds innings, and gave up seven runs on five hits, a hit batter, and five walks against a lone strikeout. RHP T.A. Fulmer (0.00) went next, coming all the way up from the Cal League, and went an inning and a third, giving up a hit and a walk. The last three frames went to RHP Jared Hoerman (6.02), who gave up two runs on three hits (HR) and two walks. LF Luis Ugueto (2B, RBI, .265), 2B Mickey Lopez (HR, 2 RBI, .290), and SS Ramon Santiago (2B, 3B, 2 R, .197) all had two hits, and DH Ryan Christianson (2B, R, .291) chipped in the double I wanted, so no complaints here. LHP Bill Pulsipher tomorrow.

San Antonio 5, Round Rock 6 (HOU)
LHP Phil Devey (4.50) started this one out and went five innings, giving up an earned run on five hits and two walks against five strikeouts. RHP Renee Cortez (4.46) went next, going an inning and two-thirds, allowing one hit and two walks while striking out one. Unfortunately, LHP Jared Thomas (4.31) couldn’t hold on, and gave up three runs on four hits and a walk against two strikeouts as he finished up the game. Not much on the offense’s end, but RF Shin-Soo Choo (3B, 2 R, SB, .305) tripled.

Midland 1 (OAK), San Antonio 3
RHP Felix Hernandez (3.58, W) is still in San Antonio, and to prove it, he three-hit the Rockhounds, giving up a run and a walk while striking out seven over six innings. RHP Emiliano Fruto (5.77) walked one and struck out two over the next couple of innings, then RHP Rick Guttormson (3.66, S) struck out a batter and got his 21st save in the ninth. For the offense, RF Shin-Soo Choo (HR, 3 RBI, .306) and 2B Eddie Menchaca (R, .222) both had two hits. RHP Rich Dorman tomorrow.

Visalia 2 (COL), Inland Empire 5
RHP Juan Sandoval (3.83, W), who has been on fire for the past month+, went six innings and gave up two runs on ten hits while striking out eight. RHP Darwin Soto (3.52) then picked up the three-inning save, giving up two hits and striking out five. RF Carlos Arroyo (2 R, .315) and C Rene Rivera (R, RBI, .249) both had two hits, with 1B Matt Hagen (2B, R, 2 RBI, .221) providing the only extra-base knock. RHP Rett Johnson tomorrow. That’s right, he’s back.

Kane County 8 (OAK), Wisconsin 2
LHP Ryan Feierabend (3.93) put in a good enough effort to win it, going seven innings and giving up two runs on seven hits, a wild pitch, and a walk against four strikeouts, but the bullpen, namely RHP Chad Fillinger (10.38, L), lost it. Fillinger gave up four runs on two hits and two walks with a strikeout for his only out, then LHP Michael Ciccotelli (13.50) struck out a batter before RHP Mike Hrynio (3.99) gave up a hit and a walk to score three of the runs, then struck out the last hitter. In other words, they struck out the side, but gave up four runs in between. To add insult to injury, RHP Brad Rose (13.83) gave up a two-run bomb and four hits overall in the final inning. 1B Bryan Lahair (HR, 2 R RBI, .316) and 2B Eric Blakeley (2B, .301) both had two hits, but that was about it.

Wisconsin 3, Beloit 2 (MIL)
RHP Brandon Moorhead (3.26, W) chewed through the Snappers again today (“ah, Snapper… very tasty fish…”), going eight innings and giving up two runs on six hits and two walks against eleven strikeouts. RHP Mike Hrynio (3.91, S) then closed it out, giving up one hit in the ninth. DH Nick Orlandos (RBI, .318), SS Adam Jones (R, .269), and 1B Jeremy Dutton (2B, RBI, SB, .200) all had two hits apiece, while CF Josh Womack (2B, R, RBI, .261) and C Justin Ruchti (2B, R, .203) both had doubles. LHP Jason Mackintosh tomorrow.

Everett 2, Spokane 12 (TEX)
RHP Ruben Flores (5.26, L) was a bit of a mess, going four innings and allowing five runs on seven hits (HR) and four walks with six strikeouts. LHP Vance Hall (6.95) had similar problems, getting through only two innings and giving up two runs on three hits, two wild pitches, and four walks. LHP Brandon Perry (8.41), who just seems to be getting worse and worse, allowed five runs on six hits and four walks in the final two innings. 2B Asdrubal Cabrera (2 2B, R, .296) was 3-3 with a walk, but other than that, it was just the double by 1B Brandon Green (2B, RBI, .287).

Everett 13, Spokane 8 (TEX)
SportsNetwork cussed up again, so bear with me here... LHP Shawn Nottingham (2.90, W) was actually out there on the mound, though he gave up eight runs on eight hits (HR), a hit batter, and four walks against three strikeouts, so I think he's off the Pitcher of the Month race for August. On the bright side, Nottingham is leading the NWL in wins right now with seven. RHP Cibney Bello (5.40) went for the next two innings, giving up a hit and two walks with two strikeouts. RHP Phil Cullen (1.96) took over in the ninth, with one walk and one strikeout. LF Casey Craig (2 2B, R, RBI, .301) and 2B Oswaldo Navarro (2B, 3 R, 2 RBI, .260) both had three hits, but when we get to the two-hit crowd, things start to break down. Jon Lockwood WAS NOT DHing (how could he be when he was pitching in Peoria right then?), and it was DH Matt Tuiasosopo (HR, 2 R, 3 RBI, .474) who went 2-5 with a walk. For additional humor, check out the Everett roster, which lists "Matt TuiasosoTo", a guy who's one inch taller, 20 lbs lighter, and is twelve years and a month older, but somehow wears the same uniform number. Also logging two hits were SS Asdrubal Cabrera (2B, 2 R, 2 RBI, .299), CF Brent Johnson (R, 2 RBI, .315), and C Omar Falcon (2 R, RBI, .231). RHP Aaron Jensen tomorrow.

Peoria Mariners 5, Phoenix Athletics 8
It was actually RHP Joe Woerman (6.75, L) who started, going four innings and giving up five earned runs on seven hits, a hit batter, and two walks with four strikeouts. RHP Tim Dorn (7.50) went next in probably his best outing, going two innings and giving up a run on three hits and two walks against a strikeout. RHP Stephen Grasley (5.19) went the next inning, giving up a run on a solo shot, then RHP Craig James (0.00) struck out two in the eighth. On offense, LF Chris Snelling (2 2B, R, RBI, .375) and 3B Pedro Ozoria (RBI, CS, .222) has two hits apiece, with RF Reynaldo Cruz (2B, .273) and DH Luis Soto (HR, 2 R, .355) contributing the extra-base hits.

Mesa Angels 2, Peoria Mariners 6
RHP Jon Lockwood (6.52) went another five innings, giving up a run on four hits, two wild pitches, and three walks against three strikeouts. RHP Roman Martinez (5.82) was next up and had an unusually stellar outing, going two innings and striking out four. LHP Adam Brandt (4.35, W) pitched the eighth, giving up a run on two hits and a wild pitch while striking out two, then RHP Matt Tindell (0.00) had a strikeout in the ninth. RF John-Austin Emmons (2 R, SB, .368) had a couple of hits, and SS Jeff Dominguez (2B, R, RBI, .243) and LF Chris Snelling (2B, R, 3 RBI, .357) both doubled. Peoria has the day off tomorrow.

Tacoma 9, Oklahoma 4 (TEX)
RHP Gustavo Martinez (4.27) had a decent start by his standards, going five innings and allowing a run on four hits and six walks against four strikeouts, but of course it’s those walks that concern me more than anything. LHP Randy Williams (3.32, E) is pitching his way out of a possible call-up, giving up another two runs on two hits (HR) and two walks against a strikeout in his inning and a third, but RHP Jeff Harris (5.52) dug that inning out with a couple of strikeouts. RHP Tony Runion (4.50, W) got the win after two innings where he gave up a solo shot, a walk, and rung up three. 2B Mickey Lopez (2 R, RBI, SB, .284), CF Jeremy Reed (2 R, .299), 1B A.J. Zapp (2B, 2 RBI, .288), and PH/SS Ramon Santiago (R, 2 RBI, .182) all notched a couple of hits. SS Michael Collins (.000) didn’t do much in his Rainiers debut, but PH Vince Faison (HR, 2 R, .500) did when he replaced him and knocked out a two-run shot. If you’re wondering how a pinch-hitter gets two at-bats without taking the field, that’s the beauty of your team batting around in seven-run ninth inning uprising. LHP Bryan Ward tomorrow.

San Antonio 1, Round Rock 9 (HOU)
It was bullpen day today, as RHP Juan Done (5.68, L) went only three and two-thirds as he gave up seven runs on eight hits (HR), a hit batter, and a walk with two punchouts. LHP Jared Thomas (3.76) went the next inning and a third, giving up a run of his own on three hits and a wild pitch with a strikeout, then LHP Tim Rall (4.53) had two walks and two strikeouts in the sixth. RHP Aaron Taylor (2.96) gave up a solo shot and struck out a couple the seventh, and RHP Emiliano Fruto (5.98) rung up two in the ninth. Your offense was this: Top of the ninth, LF Dustin Delucchi (R, .280) walks, 3B Hunter Brown (.284) singles, RF Shin-Soo Choo (RBI, .305) grounds out. LHP Phil Devey tomorrow.

Visalia 3 (COL), Inland Empire 4
RHP Jon Huber (2.70, W) snatched up the rotation spot in Rowland-Smith’s absence, going five and a third innings and giving up three runs on two hits and two hit batters with seven each of walks and strikeouts. LHP Troy Cate (2.70) went the next two-thirds with a hit and strikeout, then LHP Melvin Pizarro (3.07, S) picked up the save after three innings where he gave up a hit and two walks while striking out two. CF Gary Harris (R, SB, .278) and 3B Jesus Guzman (R, RBI, 2 SB, .303) had the hits and the speed, but those were both a bit overshadowed by the power from SS Erick Monzon (HR, 2 RBI, E, .324/.373/.635). RHP Juan Sandoval tomorrow.

Kane County 7 (OAK), Wisconsin 4
This wasn’t RHP Bryan Stitt’s (4.43) fault in the least. Stitt went five and third innings and was great, allowing two runs on three hits (HR), a hit batter, and two walks against EIGHT strikeouts. My blame’s going to LHP Casey Abrams (10.89), who went a third of an inning, striking out a batter, but giving up five hits and two wild pitches, scoring one of Stitt’s runs and leading to five runs charged to Abrams. RHP Kenly Chang (4.67) went the final three and a third, giving up two hits, a hit batter, and a walk with two strikeouts. On offense… well, DH Nick Orlandos (2B, RBI, .316) had a double and 3B Eric Blakeley (RBI, .302) had two hits. RHP Brandon Moorhead tomorrow.

Eugene 5 (SD), Everett 7 (seven innings)
In the first game of the twin bill, LHP Kendall Bergdall (5.63) got into trouble again, going only three+ innings and allowing five runs on six hits and four walks with two strikeouts. RHP Mumba Rivera (3.19, W) allowed two of those runs to score on a wild pitch and a sac fly, but was otherwise good in his three innings, walking three and striking out two. RHP Mark Lowe (5.79, S) picked up the save with a strikeout in the ninth. 3B Asdrubal Cabrera (HR, 3 R, 2 RBI, .290) and CF Brent Johnson (RBI, SB, .314) had three hits, while 1B Brandon Green (2B, R, SB, .281), RF Mike Wilson (R, 2 RBI, SB, .279), and SS Matt Tuiasosopo (2B, RBI, E, .571) had two hits apiece.

Eugene 1 (SD), Everett 12 (seven innings)
In a much more lopsided game, RHP Jason Snyder (3.86, W) went six innings with a run on four hits, a hit batter, and a wild pitch against four strikeouts. RHP Aaron Trolia (9.69) had a harmless walk in the seventh. As for the offense, all I need say is Tui. DH Matt Tuiasosopo (2B, HR, 2 R, 2 RBI, CS, .700) was 3-3 with a walk. Oh yeah, some other guys, 3B Brandon Green (HR, 3 R, .287), C Omar Falcon (3B, 2 R, 3 RBI, .221), and RF Elvis Cruz (HR, 3 RBI, .224) had two hits each, with LF Mike Wilson (HR, 2 R, 2 RBI, .278) and 1B Thomas Hubbard (2B, R, RBI, .241) with some additional extra-base hits. RHP Ruben Flores tomorrow.

Peoria Mariners 9, Arizona Brewers 6
RHP Oliver Arias (6.69, W) started and didn’t fare so well, going five innings and giving up three runs on five hits and four walks against three strikeouts. RHP Donald Clement (4.19) went next, going for three frames and giving up one earned run on three hits and a walk with three more strikeouts. RHP Ryan Leaist (5.40, S) picked up the save with a perfect ninth. RF John-Austin Emmons (R, 2 RBI, 2 SB, .368) is still a hitting machine with another three today, though he didn’t provide the fireworks that 1B Luis Soto (3B, R, 2 RBI, .360), C Danny Santin (2 2B, 2 R, RBI, .354) and LF Joe Jacobitz (2B, R, RBI, CS, .291) got out of theirs. I’d be more than inclined to send Emmons, Soto, and Santin on their way up the ladder, but I wouldn’t know where exactly to put them. Oh yeah, SS Jeff Dominguez (SB, .250) had two hits as well, and DH Chris Snelling (R, RBI, SB, .350) was 1-3. LHP Paul Fagan tomorrow.

I finally got the data from the VSL, and their season is now over, with the team in fourth place. There’s about six or seven box scores I’ve missed because of engagements in the non-baseball world and their site screwing up, so I don’t know that I’ll recap those.
